Lidocaine/Prilocaine Topical Cream (LIDOCAINE/PRILOCAINE CREAM - TOPICAL)

For local anesthesia before a procedure.

Instructions

DO NOT take this medicine by mouth.

Use the dosing strip provided to measure the amount of medicine that should be used. 1 gram = 1 strip; 2 grams = 2 strips; 2.5 grams = 2 and 1/2 strips.

Apply the medicine to the affected area.

Apply a thick layer of medicine to the area. Do not rub into the skin.

Wash the area first before applying medicine.

Do not leave the medicine on for more than 4 hours. Remove any excess medicine.

Apply a bandage over the area after applying the medicine.

Keep the medicine at room temperature. Avoid heat and direct light.

Avoid getting the medicine in the eyes, nose, or mouth. Wash the medicine off your fingers after applying it.

Use only on normal looking skin. Avoid skin that is red, scraped, or damaged.

Wash your hands after applying the medicine.

Wash your hands after using this medicine unless your hands are part of the area being treated.

Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth after handling the medicine.

Tell your doctor and pharmacist about all your medicines. Include prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal medicines.

Cautions

Tell your doctor and pharmacist if you ever had an allergic reaction to a medicine.

Do not use the medication any more than instructed.

Tell the doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant, planning to be pregnant, or breastfeeding.

Do not share this medicine with anyone who has not been prescribed this medicine.

Side Effects

The following is a list of some common side effects from this medicine. Please speak with your doctor about what you should do if you experience these or other side effects.

  • burning or stinging
  • numbness where the medicine is applied
  • skin irritation where medicine is applied

Call your doctor or get medical help right away if you notice any of these more serious side effects:

  • blue or grey lips or nails
  • red, burning, or itchy skin
  • shortness of breath
  • blistering or peeling of the skin
  • change in skin color
  • unusual or unexplained tiredness or weakness

A few people may have an allergic reaction to this medicine. Symptoms can include difficulty breathing, skin rash, itching, swelling, or severe dizziness. If you notice any of these symptoms, seek medical help quickly.
