Blue Cross VT’s Kayak Days 2024 (formerly known as Hike, Bike & Paddle) is right around the corner – splash, paddle & post to win a new kayak!

Berlin, Vermont – Blue Cross VT’s Kayak Days 2024 (formerly known as Hike, Bike & Paddle) is right around the corner! Each year, this event gives Vermonters an opportunity to try a new paddle sport to gain the mental and physical health benefits of being active on the water.

This year there are a couple of ways to participate in Kayak Days:

  • Kayak Days: Join Blue Cross VT on July 20 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Prouty Beach in Newport for free kayaking. We’ll have free boat rentals and personal flotation devices, giveaways for the first 50 attendees, lawn games, healthy snacks, and drinking water to keep everyone hydrated.
  • Summer Virtual Challenge: Get outside this summer and splash, paddle and post. We want to see you out enjoying the lakes and streams of Vermont. Beginning on July 20th, for every post that we’re tagged in on Facebook or Instagram, we’ll donate $5 to Camp Exclamation Point, a residential summer camp for underserved Vermont youth. Don’t have social media? You can also participate by sending your photo to events@bcbsvt.com. On September 6, we’ll randomly pick one submission to receive a new kayak, paddle, and personal flotation device – a package valued at more than $900. You can share as many photos as you like – the more photos you submit, the better your chances of winning.

“Make a plan with a friend to get outside and enjoy our beautiful state together,” says Megan Peek, Director of Community Relations and Health Promotion at Blue Cross VT. “Kayaking is a low impact exercise that strengthens your arms, shoulders and core. Research shows that being in nature can lower your cortisol levels, reduce stress, and improve your mental wellness, so call a friend and get out for a paddle this weekend.”
