Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont announces Vermont Blue Rx, a prescription drug benefit service that will drive better health outcomes and lower costs.
Berlin, Vermont— Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont (Blue Cross) announces Vermont Blue Rx, an innovative prescription drug benefit service that will improve the consumer experience, drive better health outcomes and lower costs for members, providers, and employers.
As part of this program, Blue Cross has selected a new pharmacy benefit manager (PBM). Effective July 1, 2021 the new PBM will provide custom programs, tools and digital technology designed to better manage overall drug spending and increase member engagement in pharmacy and health care through a more integrated health and wellness service platform. This collaboration will advance Blue Cross’s commitment to providing members with convenient and affordable access to prescription medications through a comprehensive retail and home delivery pharmacy network with no disruption to our members.
“Improving the value we deliver in health care is critical during a time when rising pharmaceutical costs are creating challenges for the members we serve,” said Don George, president and chief executive officer, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont. “Vermont Blue Rx will continue to meet the unique needs of our members—most of whom will experience no changes to their pharmacy benefit during this transition—while also enabling us to deploy new and innovative offerings to the marketplace that will drive affordability and lower pharmacy costs to Vermonters.”
Vermont Blue Rx and its new PBM will provide enhanced customer service technology that will integrate with member communications enabling a smooth exchange of information, as well as a member-centric website and mobile application designed to provide price and benefit information, speeding up medication inquiries such as prior authorization.
Blue Cross will continue to work closely with its existing PBM through June 2021 to ensure a successful and seamless transition.
